Mukune International Sake Brewing Internship

I'm in Japan this week to participate in the Mukune International Sake Brewing Internship Program, a rather unwieldy title but for really a historic event. This is the first ever program of its kind, inviting sake enthusiasts and persons in the beverage industry, from around the world, to spend a week working in an active sake brewery. At the head of Mukune is Yasutaka Daimon who is, and by no means making light of such terms, a visionary in the sake world. Ours is the second session, and we are a group of 6 who draw from around the world.

My home, and office, for the next week

Our curriculum is set to include literally every activity that goes on in the kura, from the mundane to the most critical. This is, as we have been both warned and promised, not a holiday, but a real work experience. I plan to post thoughts and pictures from throughout the week, including meals (the food at the kura is incredible, as my R. and I discovered last year). You can also follow along at the internship blog, where all of us will be posting our thoughts. Be warned, we sake enthusiasts are a bit of a gushing group, the excitement and naivete are real, as is our genuine admiration and affection for Daimon-san.
